Mediacenter Sarajevo

Mediacenter was founded in 1995 in Sarajevo. The founder of Mediacenter is the Open Society Fund Bosnia and Herzegovina (OSF B&H). In 2000, the Center was registered as a educational - research institution owned by the Open Society Fund B&H.

Mediacenter was envisioned primarily as an educational Center for the support and development of independent and professional journalism in B&H, and as of then, it has been providing education services for journalists, students of journalism and other journalism - related staff and education for the areas of journalism, media production, and usage of information technologies in media and journalism. Trainings were conducted in accordance with the standards of BBC World Training Center from London. However, the work of the Mediacenter expanded in time, and now includes TV production, training and consulting for Public Relations, publishing, research, media, and organizing different cultural events.

An integral part of the Center is its library with over 3, 000 titles from the areas such as the humanities, but with a special accent on the disciplines of Journalism and Mass Communications, including all relevant encyclopedia issues, then there is also the Internet portal for support of professional journalism in Southeastern Europe Net Novinar (Net Journalist) (www.netnovinar.org) and Research-documentation center - iDoc (www.idoc.ba) with a fully search-enabled online database of journalistic texts, laws, different analytical texts and statistical data on B&H and the region. Mediacenter Sarajevo also publishes Sarajevske sveske, one of the most significant literary magazines in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the territory of former Yugoslavia.
