"Woman and Society"
In accordance with the general strategy of the Open Society Fund Bosnia and Herzegovina (OSF B&H), and with an identified need for a new approach in regard to the reality of women human rights in B&H, in the year 2003, the OSF women's program was transformed into the independent Center for research, policies and advocacy called "Woman and Society".
Vision
- Society without the marginalization and discrimination of women and without violation of their fundamental human rights
- Society without gender stereotypes and prejudices towards women
- Society of equal opportunities for women and men, girls and boys
- Society without violence against women in private or public spheres of life
- Society with an equal representation of women and men in both public life and politics
Mission
- Creating a public space for women to gather and become mobilized to action
- Creating the social and intellectual core of Women's movement in B&H
- Assisting and participating in initiatives "from the ground up" that are of key interest to women; actively participating in the joint formulation of critical points of social changes and programs
- Encouraging public debate about which normative ideals and what strategic objectives should the Women's movement in Bosnia and Herzegovina have today
- Strengthening and encouraging women to use data and carry out research of their own, to provide an alternative analysis and promote social changes with the aim of furthering women's human rights
- Creating both a theoretical framework and practical actions for the Women's movement in the area of social and institutional reforms of our society striving for a truly gender-sensitive democracy
- Advocating for alliances and partnerships with other movements and civil society actors
- To make women's initiatives visible at the local and global levels and work towards ensuring that the authentic voice of the Bosnia and Herzegovina women is heard, and within the framework of the global discourse on women's human rights
Activities
Among others:
- "Woman and Society" Center develops methodology and carries out gender-relevant social studies
- Monitors the state of equal opportunities for women and men in B&H society
- Monitors the gender dimension in institutional reforms, especially education and legislation
- The Center organizes education, seminars, courses and trainings for a gender-sensitive approach in different spheres of social life
- The Center organizes and carries out various actions and advocates practiced respect for gender equality in the B&H society, and campaigns for social changes towards a gender-sensitive democracy
- The Center organizes conferences, speakers' platforms, debates and round table discussions
- The Center is engaged in publishing activities
